Nobody likes caterpillars. There is a famous incident in my family when we were camping and my sister Jean and my mom and maybe someone else were carrying the canoe down to the lake. A caterpillar allegedly fell on Jean, and she freaked out. She started screaming. I was halfway across the campground, and I could hear her scream, and then I could hear, "Dammit, Jean!" from my mom. (Apparently Jean dropped the canoe in her panic.)
